| 30 years of pioneering in metal separation S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH has been a cutting-edge player among the globally leading developers in industrial metal detection technology for 30 years. The product portfolio comprises metal detectors, metal separators, and magnet separators for almost all industry sectors, both for machine protection and for quality inspection. |
| S+S made their debut on the detector market in 1980. The company was the first to develop an all-metal separator named "RAPID 1000" for bulk materials conveyed in free fall, and to introduce this separator in the plastics industry. In the year 2010 S+S now celebrates the "30 years of metal separation" anniversary. All through the year S+S will celebrate this anniversary at various occasions. The RAPID 1000 - the basis for a still continuing success story 30 years ago the product portfolio of S+S among others included inductive ring sensors that were used for the eject monitoring of stamped metal parts. | the plastics-processing industry had great need for metal separation systems to protect the machines in the process of in-house plastics waste recycling. The ring sensors were adapted to the respective requirements, and the result was the first metal separator - the RAPID 1000. The Rapid product name was chosen because a fast-acting reject slide was needed for separating metal-contaminated material, and rapid is a synonym for fast. The first RAPIDs were designed as compact systems for relatively simple applications (mill protection). However, the requirements that metal separators have to meet have constantly become more stringent, and the RAPID series thus has been subject to continuous further development. Today's state-of-the-art metal separators for example feature automatic or preset product parameters, parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel, and swivelling reject units allow easy installation. From the beginning with the RAPID 1000 and RAPID 2000, the models were further developed and later included the RAPID COMPACT, which is characterised by its extremely low height, and finally resulted in today's RAPID VARIO with separated detection and separation units, RAPID DUAL for the inspection of badly pourable bulk materials such as foil chips and large mass flows, and RAPID 8000, which is designed for high throughput capacities and can be universally used for the inspection of a wide range of products from powdery, fibrous, through to granular. |
| "Family Tree" of the RAPID series: |
| The idea of introducing the RAPID series also in the food industry was the result of customer inquiries. There was a demand for metal separators that guarantee the high requirements for product purity. The main focus here lies on quality assurance. Standards and directives such as HACCP and IFS define the most important requirements for quality management in food production that are mandatory for certification. The detection and separation of metals and other contaminants is a decisive criterion here. As a result, the technologies for product inspection in the food industry have developed rapidly. In the RAPID series the results were the RAPID 4000 for the inspection of dry bulk materials, which compensates electrically conductive components (product effect), the RAPID 5000 with pipe-shaped reject mechanism that excellently accounts for the special hygienic requirements, and the RAPID 6000 with swivel hopper reject mechanism, which has proven to be excellently suitable for coarse-grained, flaky, light, fibrous, brittle, and moist bulk materials. |
